1957-1967 Ford and Lincoln Disappearing Top Cars
Beginning in 1957, Ford introduced a variety of cars that shared one very unique feature: the roof, whether it was made of fabric or steel, "disappeared" into the trunk. When the top was down, there was no visible sign that the car even had a top...no boot, no bulge....just the unbroken lines of the car.
This feature was offered on the following cars: 1957-1959 Ford Skyliner, 1958-1966 Ford Thunderbird Convertible, and the 1958-1967 Lincoln Continental Convertible.
A comprehensive guide to these cars is available now in PDF form. It is easy to view on-line or save and print.
Ford, and only Ford, could design, engineer, produce, and successfully market these "mechanical miracles". Feast your eyes on one of the most spectacular of all, the 1965 Lincoln Continental Convertible.

"Four center-opening doors, the luxury and comfort of a sedan, the largest rear passenger compartment of any convertible made: this is the unique Continental Convertible. And it it is totally automatic, Top up or down, there is nothing to button, unfasten, or snap. Touch the control and the self-storing top is lowered and stowed away, completely concealed beneath the deck, leaving no unsightly boot. The top raises securely and locks in place with equal ease, nothing for you to clamp. This year, in addition to traditional white or black convertible tops, Continental offers you a choice of blue or tan." (from the 1965 Lincoln Continental brochure form LC65-112)
