1977 Lincoln Versailles Glamour Car Of the Year

To borrow an advertising phrase used for another spectacular Ford product, the 1959 Galaxie, the Lincoln Versailles was most certainly Ford's "Glamour Car" of 1977. Not to be outdone by Cadillac's Seville, Ford introduced the Lincoln Versailles late in the model run, but it still managed to sell over 15,000 units in its first year. It had a long list of standard equipment, a super-plush interior, more sound-deadening than the big Lincolns, and the engines were hand-matched to the transmissions to insure a vibration-free combination.

A unique feature of the Lincoln Versailles was its single, center-seamed vinyl roof which aligned with the hood crease.

The Clearcoat paint made the car a dazzler, literally. Its metallic luster gave a glittering effect unknown to any other American car with a factory paint job.

To say it sparkled was an understatement. Shown above: Cinnamon Gold.
