Buzz Barrows says:
My wonderful wife of 44 years fought leukemia for over
years. Her courageous battle was an example intensity. dignity an
positive hope that was inspiring to all. Her strength and conviction was
outstanding. During the last year of her life she was to weak and to
tired to travel. I needed a project I could do and still be here with her
on a constant basis.
I have always been an old Ford
fan. Prior to meeting Barbara I owned a 1949 Ford Coupe, with a 1950
Mercury engine, Lincoln Zephyr transmission, dual glass packs that would
rattle so beautiful when shutting down in 2nd gear. It was de-chromed and
lowered 4 inches at each wheel. It was lavender exterior with a pleated
and rolled royal purple and white seats with white vinyl headliner.
Knowing what I wanted when
we saw the ad for my 1950 and the pictures She said to take the money
our of saving and buy it..."I will keep you busy now and you can finish
it when I'm gone". She wlent to be with the Lord on February 28, 2004.
I have started to mostly restore the car. The shape of the car will be
maintained. It has a flat-head V8 289. The exterior will be the
factory Sandland Beige only I am having the paint pearlized and 3 or 4
coats of clearcoat. For driving ease I am putting a new suspension in
front with power steering and disk brakes. If I can locate a 3-speed
transmission with Overdrive or a 4 - or even 5-speed manual trans that
will marry up with minimal problems I will do that. I am replacing all
the chrome or having it re-chromed. I would like to know what the
interior color scheme was when it came from the factory in Dallas. Two
bit of interest on the door is a sticker for a lube and oil in 1974
showing 32,800 miles. The 2nd sticker is for a lube indicated 37,900
in 1987. The current mileage is 39,644. I also have the original
delivery slip for the car, along with the original owners manual and the
manuals to operate the radio and the heater.
Barbara wanted it finished
and I will get it done as soon as possible. The Ford is now named
Barbie.
